ASAMEP (Asociación de Agregadores de Medios de Pago) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 that represents payment aggregators in Mexico, bridging businesses with the digital economy through card acceptance via POS terminals and online platforms. With 2-10 employees in Mexico City and around 24 member firms of varying sizes, it advocates for sector growth amid challenges like ecosystem openness and antifraud tech investments.
ASAMEP's mission focuses on driving Mexico's economic development by building inclusive payment infrastructure, increasing card penetration in commerce, and positioning aggregators as a financial pillar. Key goals include representing members' interests via lobbying with regulators (CNBV, Banxico), public advocacy, promoting digital payments, and fostering competition against verticalized systems dominated by banks and ABM.
The association offers gremial representation, regulatory engagement, networking, best practices sharing, and events to modernize payments, including support for contactless adoption, interoperability, and ISO standards. It welcomes ordinary (aggregators) and honorary members via assembly approval, maintains a blog on trends post-2014 reforms, and highlights members as ecosystem leaders. Recent efforts endorse CNBV/Banxico consultations for competitive rules, cost reductions, and neutral operations.
Led by President Myriam Cosío (until May 2025), ASAMEP pushes for independent clearing houses, tech investments, and alliances to boost electronic payments beyond Latin American peers like Brazil. It empowers aggregators as the primary enablers of digital inclusion, defending against high costs and promoting a fairer, innovative financial landscape.
