Cetesdirecto is a government-owned digital investment platform operated by Nacional Financiera (NAFIN), a Mexican development bank, that allows Mexican residents to directly purchase government securities without intermediaries. Established on November 26, 2010, the platform was created by the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) as part of Mexico's National Development Plan to democratize access to investment and promote financial inclusion among the general population. The platform enables individuals to invest in various Mexican government securities issued through Banco de México weekly auctions, including CETES (Federal Treasury Certificates), fixed-rate development bonds (Bonos), floating-rate development bonds (Bondes), and inflation-indexed bonds (Udibonos), with terms ranging from 28 days to 30 years. Additionally, users can access investment funds operated by NAFIN's fund operator, including BONDDIA, a daily liquidity debt fund, and ENERFIN, a variable-income energy sector fund. The platform requires no minimum balance, charges zero commissions or fees, and allows investments starting from 100 pesos. Users must be 18 years or older with a Mexican bank account and valid identification. The platform offers both web and mobile applications for account management. As of late 2025, Cetesdirecto serves over 2.7 million investors and adds approximately 600 new users daily, with a stated goal of reaching 3 million users by 2026. The platform is regulated and supervised by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) and provides investors direct access to primary auction rates from Banco de México. Cetesdirecto is aligned with Mexico's National Financial Inclusion Policy and represents a key government initiative to transform savers into investors while expanding the federal government's investor base.
