Visa Inc. is an American multinational payment card services corporation headquartered in San Francisco, California, that operates one of the world's largest electronic payments networks. Founded in 1958 as BankAmericard by Bank of America and rebranded to Visa in 1976, the company facilitates digital payments across more than 200 countries and territories through its proprietary global processing network, VisaNet. Visa does not issue cards, extend credit, or set rates and fees directly to consumers. Instead, it provides financial institutions with Visa-branded payment products and technology infrastructure that enable banks to offer credit, debit, prepaid, and cash access programs to their customers. The company generates revenue primarily through transaction processing fees, authorization, clearing, and settlement services, as well as value-added services including fraud prevention, risk management, and consulting.

In Mexico, Visa maintains significant operations and has made strategic investments to strengthen its presence in the country's payments ecosystem. In 2023, Visa announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Prosa, a leading Mexican payments processor that handles over 10 billion transactions annually, with the transaction expected to close in 2024. This acquisition is part of Visa's network-of-networks strategy to accelerate digital payments adoption in Mexico. Visa has also partnered with Mexican fintech companies including Clip for merchant acceptance solutions and Cacao for fintech enablement across Latin America. In 2025, Visa launched stablecoin payment capabilities in Mexico as part of a six-country rollout in Latin America, developed in partnership with Bridge. The company serves consumers, merchants, financial institutions, and government entities in Mexico through Visa-branded credit, debit, and prepaid card programs, processing transactions through major Mexican banks including Banorte, HSBC Mexico, Santander Mexico, and Scotiabank Mexico, which are shareholders in Prosa.
