MexPago is a regulated fintech company that operates as a payment service provider in Mexico. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Huixquilucan, part of Greater Mexico City, the company holds an Institution of Electronic Payment Funds (IFPE) license granted by Mexican authorities. MexPago provides an integrated payment platform that enables merchants and businesses to accept and process various payment methods including major credit and debit cards from Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, as well as SPEI interbank transfers and voucher-based payment methods. The platform serves both online and physical stores, allowing businesses to receive payments for goods and services and make payouts to suppliers and employees through a single unified interface. MexPago offers multiple solutions including mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) devices, payment gateway APIs for e-commerce integration, and a digital wallet service called MexPago Card. The company targets small and medium-sized businesses that need accessible payment acceptance solutions, offering free registration with no monthly fees or minimum sales requirements, charging only transaction-based commissions. In October 2023, global fintech unicorn Airwallex signed a definitive agreement to acquire MexPago, and the acquisition was finalized in 2025. Following the acquisition, MexPago founder and CEO Luis Castillejos Ordaz became Country Manager for Airwallex Mexico. The acquisition positioned Airwallex to enter the Latin American market and provide local payment infrastructure combined with cross-border payment capabilities. MexPago now operates as part of Airwallex's global financial platform while maintaining its IFPE license and local payment processing capabilities in Mexico.
